Klitsch Galerie (glitch + kitsch) is an interactive 3D virtual exhibition space created to present fine art series in an authentic physical context. Instead of a flat web grid, works are staged inside a charcoal-walled gallery room at their exact real-world print dimensions.
Visitors can freely navigate the gallery in first-person, examine the works and wall text up close, or follow an automated guided tour. The space also features a custom neon installation and an interactive plinth with a digital guestbook.
It's live at soundisspirit.com/klitsch-galerie/.
How it works
Physical proportions: The 3D scene uses 1:1 metric scale (1 scene unit equals 1 metre). Artworks from the Baseline and Elora series are scaled to their exact physical sheet dimensions (100.1 × 133.4 cm up to 200.2 × 266.8 cm) and hung at natural eye-level height with simulated fine-art paper pin mounts.
Spatial navigation: The custom camera controller supports desktop keyboard controls (WASD, arrow keys), smooth drag look-around, and click/tap-to-walk raycasting. Step-by-step navigation buttons let users follow the curatorial tour from the neon sign to the guestbook lectern and through the works, or zoom straight into close-up viewing distance.
Zero external bloat & live sync: Built on pure Three.js without heavy game engines or bloated frameworks. Series titles and curatorial wall texts are parsed directly from the main portfolio's visual art page on the server and rendered on-the-fly to internal canvases, while the integrated guestbook syncs entries via a lightweight PHP backend. A responsive 2D fallback ensures the exhibition remains fully accessible on devices without WebGL support.
